Training at Moss Creek Equestrian Center

We are a learning/working barn, where riders learn by doing - not watching.

Our purpose is to develop conscientious riders who understand how their horses think, feel and experience their environment, with an emphasis on the resulting lifetime relationship between horse and rider.

Riders learn horsemanship skills - on and off the horse - including:

  • safety and proper handling
  • developing a feel for riding a horse
  • communicating with a horse creatively; being observant of horse behavior
  • keeping horses healthy and challenged through training and competition
  • exercises to develop a rider's physical and mental balance, coordination and concentration

We have a complete riding program, for all ages, progressing from beginning riders, learning fundamentals of horsemanship, to training for the competitive circuit at the regional and national level.

For riders who are visiting the Lowcountry or are relatively new to the sport, we provide all the necessary equipment (short of proper clothing!), including saddles and tack. Our school horses - for those riders who do not have their own horse yet - are wonderful teachers and range from small ponies to large horses. We also have horses available for lease packages for those riders who are interested in committing to a longer term riding program.

Students learn to work together - through private and group lessons - with their horses and other riders. Regardless of their level, the riding discipline teaches all students life-skills of patience, commitment, responsibility, focus, goal-setting and relationship building.
